Arcola, IL-July 11, 2014— It is no surprise to drive down an Illinois country road to find yourself surrounded by wheat, corn and soybeans plus rolling pastures filled with cattle, sheep and pigs. According to the Department, nearly 28 million acres, almost 80 percent of the state’s total land is working farms. So it is no surprise that for many of Illinois’ youth, they grow up in a rural setting and dream of one day owning or managing a farm of their own.
It is easy to throw a child in to extracurricular activities like summer traveling teams or summer camps but there is an alternative for those kids that know John Deere and Case as a household name. This weekend the Taste of the Prairie Festival in Arcola has teamed up with the Arcola Kiddie Tractor Pull Circuit to host a free Kiddie Tractor Pull for kids of many ages.
There are a total of 5 age groups from 4-years-old to 12-years-old that can participate in the event scheduled for Friday, July 18, 2014 at 3p.m. Registration begins at 2p.m. for those children that want to participate and the cost is FREE!
The tractor pull is a part of the 2nd annual Taste of the Prairie in historic Arcola, Illinois. The full event runs Friday, July 18th from noon to 9p.m and Saturday July 19th from 10a.m. to 5p.m. at Green Mill Village. Located directly off of Interstate 57, at the Arcola exit, Green Mill Village will hosts a family event to showcase artisans, artists, crafts, collectibles, farmer’s market, food & more—a complete summer event for the everyone!
“It is rare to find an event that has an authentic showcase of so many local artists and businesses looking to grow and expand, many that don’t even have storefronts,” said Bill Wagoner, CityAdministrator for Arcola. “Tie that in with the activities for kids sponsored by Project Success with the Arcola School District and the Kiddie Tractor Pull, and you can see why the Taste of the Prairie has a regional draw for tourist and families.”
